What's In My Pump Bag for Pool Days and Summer Outings

What’s in My Pump Bag for Pool  Days and Summer Outings

Packing for the pool or beach is already chaotic.

Now add pumping?

Suddenly you’re packing:

  • pump parts
  • coolers
  • milk storage
  • snacks
  • wipes
  • chargers
  • and approximately 47 random baby items.

Over time, I’ve figured out the things that actually make pumping away from home easier — and these are the items I consistently keep in my pump bag during summer outings.

1. A Wearable Pump

For pool days, beach trips, and summer outings, I almost always bring a wearable pump.

It’s simply easier.

My current favorite wearable is the Momcozy Air 1 (read my full review here) because it’s slim, comfortable, and easy to throw into my bag.

Again, wearable pumps are still secondary pumps.

But for flexibility and convenience during outings? They are incredibly helpful.

2. A Breastmilk Chiller or Cooler

This is non-negotiable during summer.

Keeping milk cold safely is one of the biggest priorities when pumping outside the house.

I usually bring either:

  • a breastmilk chiller
  • or a cooler with ice packs

Right now, one of my favorites is the Willow chiller; you can use either their included chiller ice pack or fill with ice.

It keeps milk cold for hours and makes summer pumping so much easier.

3. A Wet/Dry Bag

Wet/dry bags are honestly underrated.

They’re perfect for:

  • wet pump parts
  • damp swimsuits
  • wipes
  • milk storage accessories
  • keeping clean and dirty items separated
  • fridge hack on the go

And they help prevent your entire bag from becoming a disaster.

4. Extra Pump Parts

I NEVER want to be stuck away from home with missing or dirty parts.

At minimum, I like having:

  • extra duckbills
  • backup bottles
  • extra membranes
  • storage caps

Because if something falls in the sand or disappears into the abyss of the diaper bag, I’m not panicking.

5. Breastmilk Storage Bags

This feels obvious until you forget them.

Always keep a small stack in your bag.

Always.

6. Pump Wipes

Summer outings are not exactly ideal for washing pump parts.

Pump wipes can be really helpful when you need a quick clean between sessions, and a bathroom or clean water is nowhere near by. I prefer to fridge hack on the go when we're out for the day, but when one of my flanges inevitably falls into the sand, I know I'll want some wipes to get it clean.

Especially at:

  • the pool
  • the beach
  • parks
  • road trips
  • or long outdoor events

7. A Nursing Cover or Lightweight Coverup

I usually keep either:

in my bag.

Even if I don’t always use it, it’s nice having the option.

8. A Portable Fan

This sounds dramatic until you try pumping outside in 95-degree heat. Plus, having it just in case for your baby is so important, too.

A small portable fan can honestly make pumping SO much more comfortable during summer outings.

Especially if you’re sitting in the car pumping.

9. Snacks + A Giant Water Bottle

No snack is magically going to increase your supply.

But breastfeeding and pumping are hungry work.

And being stuck somewhere hot, pumping, dehydrated, and starving is miserable.

I always throw a few easy snacks and a huge water bottle into my bag.

10. An Extra Bra or Swimsuit Top

This one is underrated.

If your swimsuit gets soaked or uncomfortable, having a dry bra or top nearby makes pumping so much easier. Especially after long pool days.

If you'll be pumping by the pool a ton this summer, I highly recommend investing in the Amelia Swim Top (discount code ONEWITHTHEPUMP) by Davin & Adley. It features flange slits to make pumping hands-free and easy for pumping at the beach or pool.

11. Storage Caps

Storage caps make life so much easier when you’re pumping away from home.

Being able to quickly cap bottles without transferring milk immediately is incredibly convenient.

Less spilling. Less stress.

12. Ziplock Bags

Listen.

Pumping moms become incredibly resourceful.

Ziplock bags somehow fix everything.

Wet parts? Ziplock. Forgot milk bags? Ziplock. Need to separate clean and dirty items? Ziplock.

I always keep extras.

13. A Portable Charger or Power Bank

Nothing is worse than realizing your wearable is dying halfway through the day. Or your phone. Or the baby fan.

A portable charger can absolutely save you.

Final Thoughts

Pumping away from home definitely takes a little extra preparation, but having a well-stocked pump bag makes everything feel significantly easier. You can find all of my favorites for summer pumping here.

And honestly, after a few outings, you’ll figure out the things YOU personally reach for over and over again. If you're always forgetting what to grab, make sure you also have my FREE pumping mom checklist.
