10 Things Every Pumping Mom Should Keep on Her Pump Cart
When you’re pumping multiple times a day — especially in those early postpartum weeks — having one organized spot with everything you need can make life SO much easier.
Instead of:
- searching for pump parts at 2am
- realizing all your bottles are dirty
- forgetting your nipple cream
- trying to grab snacks while pumping
…you have everything within reach.
And when you’re exhausted and postpartum, those small conveniences matter.
So let’s talk about the things I’d absolutely keep nearby while pumping.

What Is a Pump Cart?
A pump cart is exactly what it sounds like — a small cart, basket, or organized space where you keep all of your pumping essentials together in one place.
And while it may sound unnecessary at first, once you’re pumping multiple times a day, having everything nearby can make a huge difference.
If you can get an actual rolling cart, great. Having one with wheels is especially helpful because you can easily move it wherever you’re pumping:
- beside your bed for middle-of-the-night sessions
- next to the couch
- in your nursery
- or wherever you spend the most time during the day
Not constantly running around looking for pump parts, snacks, wipes, or storage bags makes pumping feel so much more manageable.
That said, you absolutely do NOT need to go buy an expensive cart for this.
A simple:
- basket
- storage bin
- diaper caddy
- nightstand drawer
- or small section of your counter
…works perfectly too.
The goal is simply to create one organized spot with the things you reach for over and over again while pumping.
Now let’s talk about the things I’d absolutely keep nearby while pumping.
1. Your Breast Pump
Obviously, your pump is the star of the show here.
Whether you’re using:
- a strong primary pump
- a wearable pump
- or both
…it’s helpful to have a dedicated spot for everything instead of constantly moving your setup around the house.

2. Nipple Pads
If you’re leaking between sessions, keeping nipple pads nearby is a lifesaver.
Whether you prefer reusable or disposable pads, it’s one of those things you don’t realize you need until suddenly your shirt is soaked while you’re trying to pump or feed the baby.
Having extras nearby just makes life easier.
3. Pumping Spray or Lubrication
This is something I think more moms should know about.
Pumping should not feel like friction torture.
Using a little lubrication while pumping can make pumping significantly more comfortable by reducing rubbing and irritation during sessions.
Two of my favorites are:
- Coboo pumping spray
- plain coconut oil
A tiny bit can make a surprisingly big difference in comfort.
4. Extra Pump Parts
Trust me on this one.
Having backup pump parts nearby is one of the best things you can do for yourself.
Extra:
- bottles
- duckbills
- membranes
- flanges
…can save you so much stress, especially during middle-of-the-night sessions.
Because nothing feels more devastating than realizing your pump parts are dirty right when you’re about to pump.
5. A Few Extra Diapers and Wipes
Babies somehow always need a diaper change the second you sit down to pump.
Keeping a couple diapers and wipes nearby can save you from having to get up mid-session or panic when you realize you forgot to restock the diaper station.
Small convenience.
Huge difference.
6. A Nursing or Pumping Cover
Even if you mostly pump at home, having a nursing or pumping cover nearby can be really helpful.
Whether:
- guests come over
- you’re traveling
- you’re pumping in the car
- or you just feel more comfortable covered
…it’s one of those things that’s nice to have within reach.
One of our favorites is the Itzy Ritzy cover because it’s lightweight, soft, and easy to throw into a diaper bag too.
7. Water and Snacks
No snack is magically going to increase your milk supply.
But breastfeeding and pumping are hungry work.
Keeping a few favorite snacks and a large water bottle nearby can make those late-night pumping sessions feel a little more manageable.
Especially in the newborn stage when you suddenly realize you’re starving at 1am.
Simple things matter.
8. A Breastmilk Chiller
If you pump frequently throughout the day or overnight, a breastmilk chiller can be incredibly convenient.
They’re especially helpful for:
- bedside pumping
- pumping at work
- travel
- middle-of-the-night sessions
If you’re trying to figure out which chiller is actually worth it, check out our breastmilk chiller comparison blog.
Right now, one of our current favorites is the Willow chiller.

9. Storage Caps for Pump Bottles
This is such a simple thing, but it makes pumping so much easier.
Being able to quickly cap the bottles you pump into without transferring milk immediately is incredibly convenient — especially during overnight sessions or when multitasking with a baby.
Less transferring.
Less spilling.
Less stress.
10. Breastmilk Storage Bags
Whether you’re building a freezer stash or simply storing milk from throughout the day, having storage bags nearby is always helpful.
Because the last thing you want after finishing a pumping session is realizing you have nowhere to store your milk.
Keeping a small stack nearby saves time and keeps everything organized.
Final Thoughts
Pumping is already a lot of work. Anything that helps make the process feel smoother and more convenient is worth considering.
And no — you do not need to go buy an entire rolling cart for this.
Even:
- a small basket
- a storage bin
- a nightstand drawer
- or a corner of your bedside table
…can work perfectly.
The goal is simply to keep the things you use most often within reach so you can spend less time searching for supplies and more time focusing on yourself and your baby.
